How does an AI artwork detector work?
A detector may combine statistical pixel analysis, embedded metadata or content credentials, and comparison with known model patterns. Each method has limitations, so a useful report explains its evidence rather than relying on one unexplained score.
Can it prove that a person or AI made a piece?
No. A detector can provide evidence and a confidence estimate from its own model. It cannot independently prove authorship or establish the full creative process. Use it alongside provenance and human review.
Can it identify Midjourney, DALL·E or Stable Diffusion?
Model matching may find patterns associated with systems represented in the detector's reference data. Models and fine-tunes change quickly, so a named match is a likely lead, not guaranteed attribution.
Can it identify an AI edit inside a human-made painting?
Some analysis can highlight local differences or signs of generative editing, but partial edits are difficult to detect consistently. A report should say which regions or signals influenced its result.
Does missing metadata mean the artwork is human-made?
No. Metadata can disappear when a file is exported, copied, compressed or uploaded to a platform. Its absence is inconclusive.
Can a human-made artwork be flagged by mistake?
Yes. Unusual styles, digital brushes, restoration, compression and scanning can affect results. False positives are possible, so a score should not be the only basis for a consequential decision.
What file should I submit?
Use the original digital file where possible. Reposts and screenshots can lose metadata and alter visual signals. Check the upload interface for supported formats and the current size limit.
Are uploads used to train AI models?
AI Artwork Checker does not use uploaded artwork to train its detection models. See the Privacy Notice for details about handling and retention.
How long are uploads retained?
You can request removal after your report is generated. Uploads that remain in the service are automatically cleared within 30 days; read the Privacy Notice for more.
Does this replace an expert?
No. It is intended to support investigation. For disputes, grading or marketplace decisions, combine evidence sources and provide a fair review process.
